Depending on who you ask and where you read, there are many differing opinions on deworming protocols and products. There are several ways to dose your horse as well as brands of dewormers, so it can be rather confusing and difficult to know if you’re doing the right thing. Also at issue is parasite resistance to certain dewormers that can vary by location or parasite load of the horse. We basically recommend either a daily dewormer plus a dose of boticide (ivermectin or moxidectin) in the spring and fall, or a rotation of paste dewormers based on your horse’s fecal egg count (FEC) and egg shedding potential.
